The Wind Rose card shows directional data as a polar distribution, so you can see which directions dominate and at what magnitude. A time-series chart cannot answer that question — direction wraps around at 360 degrees, which makes a conventional line chart of it close to unreadable.
How to read it
Readings are grouped into compass sectors and speed bands. Each spoke shows how often the wind came from that direction, as a percentage of the readings in the dashboard's time range, and the coloured bands within it show how those readings were distributed across speeds.
A long spoke means a prevailing direction. Where that length sits in the higher speed bands, the strongest readings share that direction too, which is usually the more useful finding for a structure exposed to it.
The rings are percentages, not counts, so two roses are comparable even when built from different numbers of readings.
The plot summarises the whole dashboard time range at once rather than showing a sequence. Change the range to change the period being summarised.
Use it when
Direction and magnitude have to be read together. Wind is the common case, and anything else with a bearing and a strength behaves the same way.
If you only need speed over time, a Graph card is the better card. The two work well side by side: the Graph card for when it blew hardest, the Wind Rose for where it came from.
Configuring it
Direction and speed are selected separately, each with its own device and metric, plus a unit for the speed.

They do not have to be the same device, which matters when direction and speed arrive from different instruments on a site. When they are separate, make sure both are reporting on comparable schedules — pairing a bearing with a speed recorded an hour apart produces a rose that looks fine and means nothing.
The card shows which devices it used beneath the plot, so a reader can check the pairing without opening settings.
The speed bands are generated from the data rather than configured.
Note: After changing the speed unit, confirm the legend and the plotted values agree before reading anything off the card. If they disagree, reload the dashboard.
