Dashboard access is granted per dashboard. Sharing one is a separate act from adding someone to the project, and doing the first without the second is the most common reason a shared dashboard will not open.
Before you share
Confirm the person is already a member of the project. Dashboard access does not grant project access, and it does not substitute for it — someone shared into a dashboard but not into its project cannot reach it.
If they are not a project member, an admin on the project needs to add them first.
Sharing
Share from the action bar at the top of the dashboard. Search for someone by name or email, add them, and set their level of access.

Grant viewer unless someone actually needs to build. Most people who read a dashboard daily never need to change it, and viewer is the level that keeps a working dashboard working.
Access does not come from the project
Being an editor on a project does not make someone an editor of its dashboards. Editor and viewer access is granted per dashboard and does not flow down from the project above it.
This is worth stating to whoever you are sharing with, because "I have edit access to the project" and "I have edit access to this dashboard" feel like the same sentence and are not.
If someone cannot open a shared dashboard
Check in this order:
- Are they a member of the project the dashboard belongs to?
- Have they been shared into this specific dashboard?
- Do they have the project open? Dashboards do not appear across projects.
- If they can open it but not change it, they hold viewer on the dashboard, whatever their project role says.
